The Owners
Owners of MaliaKai Boutique Mary Ann and Jamie combined their love for fashion and passion for new adventures to undertake the creation of their beloved Kaua’i consignment store. The name MaliaKai comes from an element of each owner's name, Malia is the Hawaiian name for Mary and Kai is Jamie's last name.
History
Jamie born and raised on Kaua’i, and Mary Ann, who moved to Kaua’i from Oahu in 1980, worked together and shopped together often at Lifestyle Boutique (MaliaKai’s predecessor). It was their combined love for the consignment shopping experience that inspired them to take on ownership of MaliaKai Boutique. As Jamie explains; “Mary Ann and I met while working [together] - when we saw that the business was for sale, we walked over on our lunch break, and before you knew it, we were the new owners!”
The Dream
Mary Ann says that she’s “always wanted to own some form of clothing business…” Mary Ann went to college and studied fashion design and marketing so taking over a Kaua’i consignment shop would allow her to continue her passion for fashion. Mary Ann has explained that the “idea of saving our environment by reselling and reusing really sparked my interest”.
